It is through Manny that Elver, who has lived and worked in Hartlepool since 2006, saw the benefits of channelling your passion through sport.
He explains: “Providing youth clubs and getting kids into sports will enable them to channel their energy and provide the safety we all want for the children of Hartlepool.
Having a good friend in Manny Pacquiao, I can honestly say that sport can give our children the break in life they just may need or build friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Elver, 47, who is married with three children, is hoping he can have an influence through standing as a candidate for the Veterans’ and People’s Party in the May elections.
He says: “Having received training for possible future military service in the Philippines, I like what VAPP stand for and that they are a party of ordinary people trying to change things for the better.
“I am a good Christian man who attends church regularly and do my bit for charity, including helping to run a soup kitchen for the homeless in Hartlepool.
“I am just an ordinary man who had never wanted to get into politics, but hopefully by running for councillor and with the support of the people, I can help the children and people of the ward.”
